Ghost
by Cassie Harris
All the times he held her close
Little did he know, she was at war with a ghost
Her past was the loudest voice in her crowded mind
But he thought everything was fine
Oh little did he know
Probably because she never spoke
She tried to talk, but always choked
On words she couldn’t say to herself
Her cluttered mind was a jail cell
Oh but little did she know
He fell harder when she spoke
About anything that crossed her mind
And he thought everything was fine
All the times she pulled away
Because of a rush of nerves in her brain
Told her not to listen to her heart
On the inside, her thoughts tore apart
Oh but little did he know
He was about to lose to the ghost
Her past was the loudest that spoke
Because her words always got choked
Oh but little did she know
She was about to lose to the ghost
Her past told her the direction to go
And that was the decision she chose
Oh little did they know
There really never was a ghost
It was her heart that always spoke
It was the guilt that always got choked
Oh little did she think
That her past could set her free
Her decision made her see
That finally, she was happy
Little did he know, she was at war with a ghost
Her past was the loudest voice in her crowded mind
But he thought everything was fine
Oh little did he know
Probably because she never spoke
She tried to talk, but always choked
On words she couldn’t say to herself
Her cluttered mind was a jail cell
Oh but little did she know

And he thought everything was fine
All the times she pulled away
Because of a rush of nerves in her brain
