The Trees' Song
by Anna Bennett
by Anna Bennett
Back and Forth
The trees gently sway
Quite almost like
They have something to say
So I listen
To the gentle swish
Just hearing something
I've always seemed to miss
The trees, they sing to me
A really beautiful song
A tale of a boy and girl
Who did everything wrong.
The girl chose bad friends
Who only abused her
Found refuge with only those
Who wanted to use her
Grasping for air
Nearly dying
Everyday she called out
In a voice that was crying:
"Someone help me
I don't know what to do
My life is a mess
I just have no clue"
And so he came
He picked her up
Told her he loved her
And she was always enough
Every night
She cried in his arms
The night her dad died
Sounded the alarm
Still somewhat lost
Feeling only deep pain
She decided to leave
Her soul evaporated like rain
It rose up to
The heavens above
Where she was united
With whom she loved
When he found out
What she had done
He felt anger and fear
Of what was to come
Distraught and hurt
He pushed it all away
Trying to move on
He prayed and he prayed
But she haunts him
Every night in his dreams
He smiled through the pain
Not everything is as it seems
The trees paused their song
Allowing me to think
My heart pounded
Tears stopped by blinks
And then they continued
Their tragic story
I knew this scene
Would be a bit more gory
His days grew shorter
The darkness grew
Driven insane
He knew what to do
Hopeless longing
Made him go mad
He was far beyond the point
Of just being sad
He wanted revenge
On those who took his life
So he opened the kitchen drawer
And grabbed the sharpest knife
Quick as a ghost
And extremely blood thirsty
He hunted down the bullies
Who made her soul dirty
He slit their throats
And moved on to the next
The police never caught him
They thought he, innocent
She was finally avenged
But it wasn't enough
To satisfy his anger
To compare to his love
Driven mad he was
And they wheeled him away
Now he regrets it
Every single day
He knew it was time
For his anger to stop
But he knew these dark feelings
Would always keep him distraught
So he left to join her
But never quite made it
He didn't really believe
He never learned to have forgiven.
This was the end
Of the trees' now bitter son
And now I could see
Why humanity was wrong
We can't hold on
To judgement and hate
It's not our place
For others lives to have take
We must realize now
Where we've made mistakes
Or we'll follow his path
Of darkness and hate
I don't believe
Humanity will get any better
We all have to suffer
Before we live together
And when that day comes
When we all can just love
The heavens will open
And we'll rise above.
The trees gently sway
Quite almost like
They have something to say
So I listen
To the gentle swish
Just hearing something
I've always seemed to miss
The trees, they sing to me
