Today is Not a Blue Day
by Elizabeth Anderson
Today is not a blue day.
The sun does not shine and the birds do not call. Mighty hands have forgotten to color in the flowers. The fox slinks into the forest with his tail between his legs, and the little goldfish hides under the surface of his pond. Clouds roll across the sky like the mighty ship of a pirate, covering the world in their shadow. There is no wind, yet the earth shudders, its surface suddenly cold. Children hide under their mother’s arms. It is quiet, it is dark, it is cold.
Today is not a blue day.
