Drop and Pop
by Amber Wenttang Showers in the city, cold and dark droplets fall, The umbrella’s closed tight at my side, though. My favorite shoes, my most beloved heels, are drenched While a stray gives a friendly greeting from his refuge Another day, another hour, minute, and second Dyed in shades of blue like it wants to change, But look up into the heavens and see that nothing’s new, The sky is still cloudy, rain continues to fall upon the streets. Sky’s tears falling down our cheeks and gathering on the ground, It all piles up around the everyday boredom in our eyes While we all act about in the great puddles of humanity As if a gentle fingertip traces over the edges. Some wish they were among the stardust in space instead, Though we can’t meet the moon and such above, we’re okay. We’ll remain underneath the dark clouds, their rain and all, But they’ll always disappear for the sun to reach us once more. Amber Wenttang is a freshman at Linganore High School.
