Pirate
by Elizabeth Anderson

I'm a girl after my own heart;
I hold the key to the treasure within;
my blade is the words I write,
my pistol what I speak.

I'm a privateer of my own kind,
guarding crystal seas
that rise up into tidal waves,
striking down those who dare cross my path.

Immune to songs of sirens
that call with dangerous voices,
I do what I want, because I am captain
of a ship overflowing with imagination.

You can't hurt me, I'm a spirited soul,
my own thoughts all that can stop me-
if you dare come close, beware
of the kraken that lies within.

See, I'm a pirate, and I'm lord of the ocean-
I choose the colors that fill its waters,
and my only true friend is a loyal mind,
because I'm a girl after my own heart.
