Soulmate
by Emily Reed
I don’t believe you were my soulmate,
Or that you were my one true love,
And that we were drawn together by fate.
I remember our first date,
My hand in yours and the other in a baseball glove,
I didn’t believe you were my soulmate.
Together we watched the runner cross home plate,
And I didn’t catch a foul ball from above,
So we weren’t drawn together by fate.
I remember when I taught you how to skate,
When we fell on the ice, you said we were falling in love,
I don’t believe you were my soulmate.
Though your cliches I did hate,
You were someone I could never get tired of
Even though we weren’t drawn together by fate.
When you were gone, I felt the weight
Of losing you, a gift from above,
I tell myself that you weren’t my soulmate,
And we weren’t drawn together by fate.
