Drifter
by Gus Gesell
Drifter so old
Charting new worlds so cold
Why is it so
That you always must go
Drifter so frail, so pallid and weak
Fighting battles whose outcomes are bleak
Your night has been long, burdened and alone
Why not drift home, with your old broken bones
Drifter so brave
Your life you nearly gave
Saving worlds: so noble
Yet knighthood takes a toll
Drifter so kind, so caring and fond
Protecting the meek, yourself long far gone
A tragic hero self made, forever called upon
Drifter so foolish
Afflicted with a death wish
A cartographer, a traveler,
The universe's great explorer
You're not a soldier
Drifter
So cold,
So tired, and alone
Lay down your sword and drift on home
Charting new worlds so cold
Why is it so
That you always must go
Drifter so frail, so pallid and weak
Fighting battles whose outcomes are bleak
Your night has been long, burdened and alone
Why not drift home, with your old broken bones
Drifter so brave
Your life you nearly gave
Saving worlds: so noble
Yet knighthood takes a toll
Drifter so kind, so caring and fond
Protecting the meek, yourself long far gone
A tragic hero self made, forever called upon
Drifter so foolish
Afflicted with a death wish
A cartographer, a traveler,
The universe's great explorer
You're not a soldier
Drifter
So cold,
So tired, and alone
Lay down your sword and drift on home
