Empty Success
by Valerie Ducos
I don't understand the appeal of doing nothing,
And no I don’t mean taking a nap or daydreaming,
But dreaming of nothing, not working for anything.
Are goals and ambition a foreign idea?
Money handed down isn't the same effect as the ones you earn,
Yet it can perceived to be more proud,
To call other achievements yours
At the age where independence is normal.
13 years of schooling,
To prepare for the future we hope to achieve,
But while some stay up, others take for granted.
C’s are average as A’s seem overachieving,
But C’s to A’s seem failing.
Higher education is now questioned,
While it may not be right for some numbers are reaching,
The only goal is life is material richness,
Rather than happiness and good.
And so I question,
How can success be built without young ambition?
Without completion of education?
Without hard work?
Social media stars making millions,
Inspiring young kids to pursue temporary ideas,
While others pay off debt, after years of stress,
To save lives, to reinvent, to create change.
I guess we are each our own.
And no I don’t mean taking a nap or daydreaming,
But dreaming of nothing, not working for anything.
Are goals and ambition a foreign idea?
Money handed down isn't the same effect as the ones you earn,
Yet it can perceived to be more proud,
