My parents, my heros
By: Sammy Thomas
My parents inspire me the most, and here is why:
My mother and father were born and raised in Africa. My mother is from Côte D'Ivoire and my father is from Ghana. My parents had their fair share of struggles growing up, but they did not let that stop them from making their goal to live in America come to life. Despite their early misfortunes in life, my mother and father were able to come to the United States as young adults. They worked hard and never let their background deter them from achieving their American dream. My parent’s journey reminds me of Lou Holtz’s quote: “Show me someone who has done something worthwhile, and I’ll show you someone who has overcome adversity.” I find this quote from Holtz inspirational because my parents had to overcome adversity to be successful. I know that I will have to overcome adversity to achieve my goals in life as well. Therefore, their journey has become my anchor for resilience in the face of adversity.
